Back in nov 2007 I THINK IT WAS , I got my first D300 which had pixel faults , no problem though as the dealer exchanged it.. and the next one .. and the next one.. Had the 14-24mm f/2.8 as well but the flare issues were so bad it was unusable .. they swapped it .. and the next one.. I sold the kit….
I collected the D700 with the 14-24mm last week and they are perfect so I presume the problem was limited to quality control on the first issue of D300 and 14-24.
The gain in ISO control over ISO 1600 is worth the extra 1000 so jump in and buy the D700
