Hi Helen & Sam,

After much thought and discussion with my friend and Nikon retailer, I've decided to buy the D700 before the expected Oct/10 D700x intro. Like Sam so objectively stated, "the improvements will be marginal". I, personally, do not care for the video inclusion and the additional pixels are not as dense and I don't plan on printing bigger than 11 x 14; I need a good camera now; I can always buy a good camcorder for <$1,000.00 - the cost of a good lens.

Cheers...

Hi, Helen

It is good to wait but the improvment could be marginal and the price difference between the two will be higher.
I am also in the market for D700 but will wait and check D700x improvment and price to make a decision

Good Luck!

Hi Guys,

What everyone needs is a strong & sturdy low cost Full Frame DSLR which can give good images and easily serviceable at the end of the day. We have reached a dead end with sensors having 21 MP or 24 MP on it (in 24x36 format).

What is needed is improvement in the quality of images (that match the film results) rather than packing more nos of pixels into the sensor. CMOS technology is there to stay as far as sensors are concerned. As regards Foveon not much news on its reliability.

Professionals who want best quality can always afford medium format DSLRs alike Hasselblad, Mamiya etc.

We lesser mortals would be happy with a DSLR that rocks at affordable price ($1000 to $1500).
