I am really pissed off with Nikon about this way of abusing the customers providing equipment that does not help the photographer’s workflow. Forcing us to buy another (Nikon or other) program to be able to extract the work the Nikon D700 Raw images produce is really abusive. That is against consumer’s relationship management.

I am a big fan of CS1pro (capture) for converting my raw-files,
but with this D700, i am stuck, does anybody know if there is a CS version wich is able to convert these raw-files?

Download the free Camera Raw 4.6, from adobe, and you will be fine…

Am I right to say that all canon raw files are readable and convertible by adobe without needing an update? This is the impression I get from all these “Nikon has poor RAW compatibility”, while “Canon has excellent compatibility”.

What irks is that the NX2, which comes from the camera, is a mere trial version. That’s a complete rip off.

I think that Nikon is Canon’s best salesman. I buy a $3000.00 camera and they do not give a program to open the files. I recently bought Lightroom because out of principal I refused to pay Nikon another $200.00 to open D700 files. I have been thinking of dumping 30 years worth of Nikon gear and giving the money I receive to Canon. That would be a D200, D300 & D700 plus numerous lenses. Canon are years ahead of Nikon on the P&S market with the G9 & G10. Great little cameras.

That is a bit extreme. I agree that the proprietary raw files are ridiculous. But why would your clients ever need to see your raw file? Export a tiff and they’ll be just fine.

Are all my clients expected to purchase Nikon software to read my RAW files from my D700? If I ask my clients to buy the softwear I’m sure they will just go to the next phone number on their list…a Canon shooter.

This is an abomination – $3000 for a camera that I can’t use for RAW.

Canon is starting to look much better.

If you have photoshop CS3 the new version of their raw converter (free download) works fine with the D700 raw files. The CS3 raw converter does an incredible job. I don’t think they could make a better one.

Shame on Nikon!
I give a lot of money for equipment they sell and now I can’t work.
NX2 is very slow, I have to lose time to learn to work in it, can’t normally continuing working… Is this because they (Nikon) did not give code for new RAW format at the right time to Adobe, Apple etc.?
I am without any word more
